Manitoba Conservation, the Manitoba Emergency Measures Organization and the Office of the Fire Commissioner continue to support municipalities and fire departments with fires in southeastern Manitoba.

Evacuation orders have been lifted in the RM of Stuartburn. Residents of Caliento and Lonesand are now able to return home.

The RM of Piney has lifted the evacuation order for Woodridge but Sandilands remains under a mandatory evacuation order due to hot spots adjacent to the community. The RM will continue to monitor the situation.

No new fires have started in the eastern region today.

Cottagers, hikers, residents and other travellers should keep a close eye on local conditions.

Stuartburn Fire

Cooler, less windy weather on Saturday allowed fire crews to re-establish control lines as well as expand new control lines on new parts of the fire.

Weather conditions are expected to be more favourable again today.

Operations undertaken yesterday evening near the community of Sandilands were very successful and have reduced the threat to this community.

Since the fire began, more than 160 firefighters from 27 different municipal fire departments have been working to fight the fire.

Four water bombers continue to support firefighting efforts.

Bissett Fire

The fire near Bissett at Long Lake is still 18,000 hectares in size, approximately 40 km long and six km wide. No structures have been lost at this time.

Approximately 116 firefighters and support staff, as well as seven bulldozers, one skidder, eight helicopters and water bomber support are being used to fight this fire.
