Just before 9pm on October 18, 2011, Central Plains RCMP seized a quantity of marijuana while investigating a Highway Traffic Act offence.

While on patrol, Portage la Prairie Traffic Services observed a 2006 Chevrolet Impala on Highway 1 in the RM of Portage la Prairie, Manitoba. The vehicle was stopped while police were investigating a Highway Traffic Act offence.

Subsequent investigation revealed that the lone occupant in the vehicle was in possession of just over 6 pounds of marijuana and a large sum of cash. The approximate value of the marijuana is $18,000.

A 20-year-old man from Winnipeg was arrested for possession of a controlled substance for the purpose of trafficking as well as possession of proceeds of crime. He has been released from custody and is scheduled to appear in Portage la Prairie Provincial Court on November 7, 2011.

Police continue to investigate.
