RCMP have laid charges in a two vehicle collision incident that occurred yesterday morning in Portage la Prairie.

On October 27, 2011 at approximately 7:45am, Portage la Prairie RCMP Traffic Services, as well as Portage la Prairie EMS and Portage la Prairie Fire Department, responded to a 2 vehicle collision on Saskatchewan Avenue at 12th Street West in Portage la Prairie, Manitoba.

Investigation revealed that a 2007 GMC Sierra collided with a 1997 Pontiac Transport van. Both vehicles had been traveling westbound on Saskatchewan Avenue and were stopped for a red light at the intersection of 12th Avenue West. The driver of the GMC Sierra proceeded before the traffic signals turned green and subsequently collided into the back of the Pontiac transport van.

A 31-year-old female of Portage la Prairie, who had been driving the Pontiac Transport, was transported to hospital with what was reported to be undetermined, non life threatening injuries.

The 19-year-old male of the RM of Portage la Prairie, Manitoba who had been driving the GMC Sierra, was charged with proceeding before safe to do so under the Highway Traffic Act.

The Westbound passing lane was temporarily closed to traffic.
