The Government of Canada and the Province of Manitoba are providing $195,900 from the Canada-Manitoba Economic Partnership Agreement (WEPA) to support Manitoba companies exhibiting at Agritechnica 2011, the world’s largest international agricultural machinery and equipment show in Hannover, Germany, this month. This announcement was made by the Honourable Lynne Yelich, Minister of State for Western Economic Diversification, and the Honourable Peter Bjornson, Manitoba Minister of Entrepreneurship, Training and Trade.
“Our Government is pleased to support Manitoba’s agricultural machinery and equipment manufacturers as they raise awareness of Western Canadian companies at Agritechnica 2011 in Germany,” said Minister Yelich. “Our participation in this trade show, the world’s largest agricultural machinery exhibition, will help open markets, and create jobs and economic growth for all Canadians.”
“Agritechnica is recognized as the gateway to Europe and beyond for Canadian agricultural machinery and equipment manufacturers, where 40 per cent of the world’s agricultural equipment sales take place annually.” said Minister Bjornson. “Manitoba Trade and Investment’s efforts to showcase Manitoba’s expertise and capabilities at this trade show is a world-class opportunity for increasing sales of Manitoba products and making stronger business connections with developing markets such as Russia, China, Kazakhstan and Ukraine. This year, 20 Manitoba companies will be participating and this is a record for Manitoba at this event.”
Federal and provincial funding will be used to support exhibits for the harvest equipment, tractors and parts sector; the grain-handling, storage and grain-processing sector; and the seeding and tillage equipment sector. These exhibits are being co-ordinated by Manitoba Trade and Investment, Manitoba’s lead agency for international trade development.
At Agritechnica 2009, Manitoba vendors generated about $10 million in new orders at the show, and another $30 million in new sales in the year following the show. In 2010, Manitoba exported $405 million of agricultural-related manufacturing and technology, approximately
31 per cent of Canada’s agricultural machinery exports abroad.
Local Manitoba industries taking part at Agritechnica are providing more than $70,000 to support the exhibits.
Manitoba Trade and Investment has designed each of the three Manitoba exhibits to promote, support and foster sales, hold meetings and conduct industry networking. Each exhibit will have meeting rooms and storage facilities, and will also include multilingual promotional material with additional translation and interpreter support.
Manitoba is also partnering with Saskatchewan to co-ordinate exhibitor logistics and services, prepare promotional material, share translation services, co-ordinate shared exhibition space at the seeding and tillage exhibition hall, and survey vendor and show participants on their experience.
More than 2,600 exhibitors in 24 separate halls and vendors from 46 countries are expected to attend Agritechnica 2011, and the show is expected to attract more than 350,000 attendees from 88 countries.
