A youth from the RM of Grey has died in a single vehicle collision that occurred early this morning near the Community of Culross.
On November 12, 2011, at about 1:30am, Carman and area RCMP as well as EMS were dispatched to a single vehicle collision on Road 53N, 5 miles north of the Community of Culross, in the RM of Grey.
At the scene, RCMP found a vehicle in the ditch with three 16-year-old males ejected from the vehicle. One male passenger from the RM of Grey perished in the collision and was pronounced deceased at the scene. The other passenger was taken to hospital with serious but non-life threatening injuries.
The vehicle was heading east on the gravel road when the driver lost control, rolled and landed in the ditch.
None of the occupants were wearing seatbelts.
Police say that the driver is currently in police custody and charges are anticipated. Alcohol and drugs are believed to be contributing factors in the collision.
The investigation continues with the assistance of an RCMP Traffic Analyst.

The 16-year-old driver of the vehicle has now been charged with impaired driving causing death, impaired driving causing bodily harm under the Criminal Code and possessing a controlled substance (Marijuana) under the Controlled Drugs and Substances Act. As a youth, he will not be named. He has been released on a recognizance with conditions and will appear in Carman Provincial Court on January 4, 2012.
