An elderly woman from the RM of Alonsa is dead after her vehicle collided with a pick-up truck last week on Highway 5.

On November 7, 2011, just before 10am, Dauphin RCMP as well as local Emergency Services were dispatched to the scene of a fatal two vehicle collision on Highway 5, about 1 km east of Highway 10.

Investigation at the scene indicated that a 2006 Ford Five Hundred was traveling west on Highway 5 when it collided with a 2000 Ford pick-up truck traveling east.

The driver and lone occupant of the Ford Five Hundred, an 80-year-old woman from the RM of Alonsa, was transported to hospital where she was later pronounced deceased. Her name will not be released.

The 75-year-old male driver of the Ford pick-up truck and his 71-year-old female passenger were treated at the scene for minor injuries. They are both from the Gilbert Plains area.

Road conditions were reported to be extremely slippery due to ice at the time of the collision and is considered to be a contributing factor.

No charges are anticipated at this time and police continue to investigate.
