Three Portage la Prairie youth are facing weapons charges after police responded last month to a complaint that a female youth had been hit with an air rifle pellet.
On October 24, 2011, Portage la Prairie RCMP responded to a call from a 16-year-old female advising that she had been hit with an air rifle pellet while sitting on a bench near Crescent Lake in Portage la Prairie, Manitoba.
RCMP report that the girl received minor injuries and did not require medical treatment.
Police were able to identify 2 suspects in a nearby house that had been discharging a pellet gun from an open window. A pellet gun with a scope was seized and 2 males were arrested. An additional male was identified and later arrested.
Further investigation revealed that on October 22, 2011, a similar pellet gun shooting incident occurred in the area. A man walking his dog was also hit with a pellet. No suspects were identified at that time. The man received minor injuries that did not require medical treatment.
Police have now laid charges to 3 males, aged 15, 16 and 17 of Portage la Prairie. Each of the youth have been charged with assault with a weapon and possession of a weapon for a dangerous purpose.
The names of the accused will not be released and the investigation continues.
