At approximately 10:30pm on December 7, 2011, while investigating a Highway Traffic Act offence, Central Plains RCMP seized a quantity of marijuana.
Police on patrol observed a 1999 Ford F150 on Yellowquill Trail in Long Plain FN Manitoba. The vehicle was stopped as it looked to have illegal tint on the windows.
Subsequent investigation revealed that the occupants of the vehicle were in possession of 21 grams of marijuana. As well, the driver of the vehicle was found to have an outstanding warrant for arrest.
Charged with possession of a controlled substance for the purpose of trafficking is 20-year-old Cody Schmidt and 21-year-old Ryan Meeches, both of Long Plain FN, Manitoba. Cody Schmidt has been remanded in police custody and is scheduled to appear in Portage la Prairie Provincial Court on December 12, 2011. Ryan Meeches has since been released from police custody and is scheduled to appear in Portage la Prairie Provincial Court on January 9, 2012.
Police continue to investigate.
