Manitoba is once again offering a free calendar full of updates on new laws aimed at consumer protection as well as consumer tips and advice. This announcement was made by Family Services and Consumer Affairs Minister Gord Mackintosh.

“Consumer protection is a priority and, with the Let’s Make a Better Deal consumer protection strategy, we’ve made a number of improvements,” said Mackintosh. “This calendar is a great resource and outlines important new laws as well as offering reminders on consumer safety and protection.”

The calendar offers useful information on topics like the new vehicle disclosure laws and payday loan information as well as tips on lottery tickets, safety aid for seniors and landlord-tenant disputes, the minister said, adding the calendar is available in both English and French.

The calendar is available by calling the Consumer Protection Office at 204-945-3800, toll-free at
1-800-782-0067 or by emailing consumers@gov.mb.ca.

The calendar is made possible through a partnership between Manitoba Family Services and Consumer Affairs, Crime Stoppers, the Canadian Motor Vehicle Arbitration Plan, the Manitoba Seniors and Healthy Aging Secretariat, Manitoba Public Insurance, RCMP, Manitoba Gaming Control Commission, the Age & Opportunity SafetyAid program, Addictions Foundation of Manitoba and Canada Revenue Agency.

The Consumer Protection Office responds to consumer complaints and provides information about a variety of issues, Mackintosh said. Additional consumer tips may be found on the Canadian Consumer Information Gateway at www.consumerinformation.ca or on the Consumer Protection Office website at www.manitoba.ca/fs/cca/cpo.
