From December 19 to 25, 2011, the RCMP Holiday Check Stop Program has resulted in numerous charges.
• 3390 vehicles were checked across the Province of Manitoba during 89 check stops
• 23 people were charged with either Impaired Driving or Drive Over .08 or Refusal.
• The average blood/alcohol reading was 158 mgs% (0.158) – just less than double the legal limit.
• The highest blood/alcohol reading was 230 mgs% (0.230)
• One individual pulled over for impaired blew an initial sample of 300 mgs% (.30) but was unable to provide a second sample, and was in turn charged with Refusal
Other stats from Week Three of the 2011/2012 Holiday Check Stop program include:
• Five 24 hour alcohol related roadside suspensions.
• 31 people charged for not wearing their seatbelts
• 327 other traffic related provincial statute (HTA) charges laid.
• 7 other Criminal Code offences
During the same period of the 2010/2011 program there were 16 people charged for impaired driving related offences (impaired, over .08, or refusal).
Since the start of the 2011/2012 Christmas Check Stop program, the RCMP has charged 110 people with impaired driving, drive over .08, or refusal; and has issued 30 alcohol/drug related 24-hour roadside suspensions.
There was one traffic related fatality that occurred on December 25, 2011 near Ste Rose du Lac. A 17 male was killed in a single vehicle rollover. Police continue to investigate the cause of that fatal collision.
