On January 11, 2012 at about 10 am, RCMP Selkirk Detachment received a 911 call advising that a truck had gone through the ice about 2 miles from shore in the Beaconia Beach area of Lake Winnipeg.
RCMP report that the two occupants from the vehicle have been located and are alive. They have been identified as a 51-year-old Winnipeg resident and a 54-year-old Grand Point resident.
The 54-year-old was located on Lake Winnipeg by a SARMAN search team. The 51-year-old walked out to a local residence. Both men were transported to seek medical attention.
Police say that the pair were on their way to go fishing when their vehicle broke through the ice.
The RCMP Selkirk Detachment were assisted by the RCMP Search and Rescue, the Manitoba Office of the Fire Commissioner, Manitoba Conservation, the East Beaches Fire Department, SARMAN (Search and Rescue Manitoba), along with several other Fire Departments.
