On March 14th, 2009 at about 8:00 am., Steinbach RCMP were informed that a female had just fled her home with her children after being stabbed in the head with a screwdriver near Steinbach, Manitoba. 

Investigation revealed that a family dispute ensued at a Mitchell, Manitoba residence resulting in the husband stabbing his wife repeatedly with a screwdriver in the face and head. The assault occurred inside their children’s bedroom while the children were present in the room.

33 year old David Reddekopp was arrested by RCMP at his residence shortly after the incident and is now charged with aggravated assault. He was remanded in custody and is to appear in Winnipeg Provincial Court on March 16th, 2009.

The victim remains in hospital being treated for severe head trauma.   

Police secured the residence immediately after the incident to further their investigation with the assistance of the Winnipeg RCMP Forensic Identification Unit.  

No additional information available at this time. The investigation continues.

Update 03/16/09 3:51pm

The victim ( 30 years old ) was released from hospital on Sunday, March 15, 2009 and is in stable condition. The accused remains in custody awaiting court appearance.
