Three Winnipeg residents have been arrested after police discovered stolen property and prohibited weapons in their possession earlier this week.
Just before 10:30am on January 16, 2012, Portage la Prairie RCMP seized stolen property. Portage la Prairie Traffic Services, Portage la Prairie Detachment and Ste. Rose du Lac Detachment were involved in the investigation.
While on patrol, Portage la Prairie Traffic Services observed a 2003 Honda Accord traveling east on Highway 1 near PR 240 in the City of Portage la Prairie, Manitoba. The vehicle was stopped as it was exceeding the posted speed limit.
Initial investigation revealed that the occupants were in possession of open liquor as well as a small amount of marijuana and cocaine. Police say that one passenger had an outstanding warrant for arrest in Alberta.
Further investigation revealed that the individuals had been involved in a robbery at a residence in Ste. Rose du Lac, Manitoba, earlier the same day and were in possession of stolen property as well as prohibited weapons.
Charged with robbery, two counts of possession of a weapon dangerous to the public, possession of property obtained by crime and possession of a controlled substance are 24-year-old Akintunde Ogidan, 24-year-old Jeffrey Tait and 20-year-old Christopher Nolin, all of Winnipeg, Manitoba. All were held in custody and are scheduled to appear in Portage la Prairie Provincial Court on January 18, 2012.
Police continue to investigate.
