A Brandon man has been arrested for impaired driving after an unsuccessful attempt at fleeing police earlier this week near Ninette, Manitoba.
On January 26, 2012, shortly after 9:30pm, members of the RCMP Killarney Detachment area stopped a late 90’s Chevrolet pick-up truck in the rural area near Ninette. As the members approached the vehicle to speak to the driver, the driver accelerated away in an effort to evade officers.
Members of the Killarney, Deloraine and Boissevain RCMP followed the fleeing vehicle westbound on Highway 23, the vehicle continued to drive erratically onto a gravel road near Ninnette. During the incident, the driver failed to negotiate a sharp curve in the road. The vehicle left the road, entered a wooded ravine where it struck a tree and came to rest.
Police say that both the driver and a 16-year-old male passenger in the vehicle were taken to hospital, treated for minor injuries and released.
The driver has been identified as a 28-year-old Brandon man. He was arrested and will be facing charges of impaired driving, driver over .08, flight from police, obstruction of police in the execution of their duties. He has been released for a court appearance in April.
