The Steinbach Cultural Arts Centre will be hosting an opening ceremony celebration for photographer Jim Reimer on February 8 at 7pm in the Hall Gallery of the Centre. The exhibit, ‘A Life of Photography’, will run from February 8 to March 2.
Jim Reimer is a self-taught photographer living in the Steinbach area, where he has spent most of his life. He likes to create pictures at every opportunity – which has been for about 45 years.
Though Jim does a lot of nature shots, his photographs range in subject matter. He has also captured many stirring images of people, old buildings, flowers, fast action shots and close ups.
Jim has had the privilege of traveling and has been to such places as Papua New Guinea, Russia (Moscow and Siberia), Africa, Venezuela, Haiti, Belize, Spanish Honduras, Mexico and the United States.
His work has appeared in magazines such as Photo Life, Canadian Wildlife, Breakthrough, The Prairie Gardener and Manitoba Gardener, brochures, and books including The Birds of Manitoba by the Manitoba Naturalists Society and Owls of the World by James Duncan.
Jim has also kept honey bees for 35 years. He is married and has four children and three grandchildren.
Everyone is invited to attend the opening ceremony. Refreshments will be served. There is no admission, but a Toonie donation is requested and greatly appreciated.
