The Honourable Vic Toews, Member of Parliament for Provencher, encouraged community based organizations, public-sector employers and small businesses to apply for funding through the Canada Summer Jobs program to help create jobs for students this summer.

“The Government of Canada’s top priority is job creation and economic growth, which is why we permanently increased the annual budget for Canada Summer Jobs by $10 million in 2011,” said Minister Toews. “The increased funding for Canada Summer Jobs is helping more students gain the skills and experience they need to be successful, while strengthening our community’s economy.”

Funding is available to not-for-profit organizations, small businesses and public sector employers to create summer job opportunities for full-time students who intend to return to school in the next year and who are between the ages of 15 and 30.

“Through Canada Summer Jobs, young people and full-time students are provided with high-quality summer job opportunities in their local communities and small businesses and community organizations are provided with access to a talented and energetic workforce,” added Toews.

Beginning February 1, 2012, Canada Summer Jobs applications will be available at Service Canada Centres and online at www.servicecanada.gc.ca/csj2012. Employers will be able to complete and submit their applications online, by mail or in person. The deadline for receipt of applications is February 29, 2012.

To help employers complete their application, the Canada Summer Jobs Applicant Guide is available online, by calling 1-800-935-5555, or by visiting any Service Canada Centre.
