Figures released show Manitoba’s unemployment rate held steady at 5.4 per cent in January as the national rate increased.
The Manitoba unemployment rate remains the third lowest in the country, well below the national average of 7.6 per cent, said Entrepreneurship, Training and Trade Minister Peter Bjornson.
“We’re pleased to see the new numbers out from Statistics Canada that show Manitobans continue to find employment. The strong gains in the private sector over the past year are especially encouraging, indicating that our government’s investments to keep growing our economy are paying off,” said Bjornson.
According to Statistics Canada, the private sector has seen a jump of 9,100 jobs since January 2011, a growth rate of two per cent, the third-strongest rate in the country.
