A St. Theresa Point woman is facing impaired driving charges after flipping her car on a closed winter road this past week.
On February 7, 2012, at 11:13pm, Island Lake RCMP responded to a report of a single vehicle collision on the winter road between Garden Hill FN and St. Theresa Point FN.
Upon arrival, a red car was located on its passenger side at the edge of the ice road in the snow bank. It appeared that the driver lost control of the vehicle which then caused it to flip on its side.
Police say that the driver of the vehicle was impaired and had 3 other passengers in the vehicle. The occupants could not exit the vehicle on their own. RCMP members and local bystanders had to assist the females from the vehicle. All were taken to the local Nursing Station, however, no one in the vehicle was seriously injured.
The driver, a 20-year-old St. Theresa Point woman, was arrested for impaired operation of a motor vehicle. She has since been released on a promise to appear on March 14, 2012 in St. Theresa Point when she will be facing charges of driving over .08 and impaired driving.
Police say that this is the second impaired charge in the Island Lake RCMP Detachment area during the last week. Police also remind motorists that it is against the law to drink and drive on a winter road that is not officially open.
RCMP remind the public that the winter roads have not been officially opened to travel.
