A 23-year-old man from Elie is dead after falling off an SUV on Provincial Road 248 in Elie this past weekend.
On February 11, 2012, at about 3am, Headingley Rural RCMP Detachment and EMS responded to a 911 call of a man injured on Provincial Road 248 in Elie.
RCMP arrived on scene and learned that a 23-year-old man from Elie had been riding on the outside of a Ford Escape in the northbound lanes of Highway 248 in Elie, when he fell off of the SUV and suffered severe injuries.
The 23-year-old was transported to a Winnipeg Hospital where he then succumbed to his injuries.
The 29-year-old male from Elie, who was driving the vehicle at the time of the incident, was taken into custody and later released on a recognizance with undertaking to make a court appearance on March 19 in Winnipeg. He will face several impaired driving charges relating to death.
The RCMP Headingley Rural Detachment, assisted by the Criminal Crash Investigation Team continues to investigate.
