RCMP have responded to a number of motor vehicle collisions this morning. Road conditions throughout the southern part of the province are reported to be slippery.
At about 6:30am this morning, Virden RCMP responded to a two vehicle collision on Highway 83 just south of the Trans Canada Highway. Initial reports indicate that a pick-up truck pulling a horse trailer was in a side to side collision with another pick-up truck. There were no serious injuries reported. The highway has since re-opened.
At about 8:15am, Selkirk RCMP were dispatched to the scene of a single vehicle rollover collision on Highway 59, about two miles north of Highway 44. A southbound vehicle lost control and rolled over at least once. The adult female driver and an adult male passenger were transported to hospital with non-life threatening injuries.
At 8am, a member from the Beausejour RCMP Detachment was at the scene of a vehicle in the ditch when the police vehicle was struck from behind. Initial investigation indicates that the police officer was getting back into his police vehicle when it was struck from behind by an eastbound vehicle, and subsequently by a second vehicle. The police vehicle was parked on the shoulder of the eastbound lanes with its emergency equipment activated at the time of the collision. The police officer was transported to hospital for treatment of non life threatening injuries. Police continue to investigate.
At 8:30am, St. Pierre Jolys RCMP were dispatched to the scene of a two vehicle collision involving a school bus on Highway 210, about one mile east of St. Adolphe. Investigators at the scene advise that a school bus was stopped with its lights flashing and stop sign activated when it was struck from behind by a passenger sedan with a lone occupant. There were six children reported to be on the bus at the time, and two were about to board the bus. The driver of the car has been charged under the Highway Traffic Act. No injuries were reported.
RCMP also report a semi vs passenger van collision at the intersection of Highway 101 and Inkster Blvd. There were two people in the van, both were transported to hospital with non life threatening injuries.
RCMP caution motorists to use extreme caution and reduce speed during winter driving conditions, and be aware of emergency vehicles and school bus warning lights.
