A Brochet man has been arrested and charged after he surrendered to police during a stand-off earlier this week.
On February 12, 2012, Lynn Lake RCMP were in the community of Brochet, Manitoba, to investigate a complaint of assault. While there, they were advised of a male in a residence who had committed an assault and was threatening the occupants with a firearm.
Attempts by police to have the man leave the residence were unsuccessful. As a result, the āDā Division Critical Incident Program and Emergency Response Team were deployed to assist and arrived at about 11pm. An adult female managed to flee the residence and was taken to safety by police.
With personnel in place, negotiators attempted to contact the man. Phone service was unavailable at the location, however, negotiators were able to communicate and negotiate with the suspect via Facebook through the RCMP āDā Division Command Centre. Negotiators worked through the night and at about 9:30am, the suspect surrendered to police without incident.
RCMP report that a rifle was located in the residence where the stand-off had taken place.
A 37-year-old man from Brochet, Manitoba, was arrested and has been charged with a number of offences including assault with a weapon, uttering threats, break and enter, committing assault and unauthorized possession of a firearm. He remains in custody.
