Earlier this week, RCMP utilized a new rescue sled to transport an injured snowmobiler on the Nelson River to an awaiting ambulance.
On February 15, 2012, shortly after midnight, Cross Lake RCMP were notified of an injured male that had been involved in a single snowmobile collision near Paupanekis Point on the Nelson River, south of Cross Lake FN.
It was reported that the 41-year-old snowmobiler from Cross Lake FN hit a pressure ridge, was ejected from the snowmobile and had potentially serious injuries.
RCMP Cross Lake members along with local EMS responded to the call, utilizing a newly purchased RCMP rescue sled.
The injured male was transported from the crash site to an awaiting ambulance on the road. The lone male was later flown to Thompson Hospital with undermined injuries.
The rescue sled utilized for this incident was key to ensure the safe and swift transportation of the victim and further strengthen the cooperation and partnership of Emergency Services in Cross Lake.
