The RCMP Financial Integrity Unit has seen a recent increase in US $100 counterfeit notes circulating in Winnipeg.

The RCMP is asking both the public and businesses to be vigilant when accepting currency. It usually only takes a few seconds to determine if a bank note is genuine.

Some businesses falsely believe they are protecting themselves by not accepting large value notes, but in reality counterfeiters target all notes.

The best prevention is education, if you are handling cash you should educate yourself on how to detect counterfeit currency.

Whether you are a business or consumer if you accept a counterfeit note you end up taking the loss.
