Central Plains RCMP have made an arrest in connection to the dangerous operation of a motor vehicle that occurred earlier this week.
On March 12, 2012, police on patrol observed a 2000 Pontiac Grand Am on Highway 1 at Yellowquill Trail near Dakota Tipi FN. The vehicle was stopped as police noted that the vehicle was not registered.
Once the vehicle stopped, police attempted to speak with the occupants, however, the driver failed to remain at the scene. Police followed the suspect vehicle and apprehended the driver in a field on Highway 305 after he tried to evade police.
Subsequent investigation revealed that the driver had a number of outstanding warrants out of Ontario and British Columbia.
The 24-year-old male driver, Ander Kumar Walker-Huria, was charged with flight from police, dangerous operation of a motor vehicle and obstructing a police officer. He has been remanded in custody and is scheduled to appear in Portage la Prairie Provincial Court on March 19, 2012.
Police continue to investigate.
