A Lorette man is dead after he was struck on his bicycle by a truck near the Trans Canada Highway on Highway 12 earlier this morning.
On March 19, 2012 at about 10am, Steinbach RCMP as well as local emergency services were dispatched to the scene of a fatal collision that involved a motor vehicle and a bicycle. The scene of the accident was on Highway 12, about one half mile south of the Trans Canada Highway.
Initial investigation indicates that an adult male was cycling southbound on Highway 12 when he was struck by a southbound 2000 GMC heavy truck.
The cyclist, a 70-year-old man from Lorette, Manitoba, was transported to hospital where he was pronounced deceased. His name will not be released.
Police say that the driver of the truck was not injured.
An RCMP Traffic Collision Analyst attended to assist with the investigation. Road conditions and visibility were reported to be good at the time of the collision. Alcohol and speed are not considered factors in the collision at this time.
Police continue to investigate.
