On March 22, 2012 at about 2:45 pm, RCMP Virden Detachment were dispatched to assist with an evacuation in the community of Lenore due to a fire.
RCMP responded and arrived on scene. Fire Departments from Virden, RM of Woodworth, Oak Lake and Elk Horn where already on site fighting the fire with some assistance of local area farmers. The fire is reported to have consumed 3 abandoned structures (one house trailer and two houses) and damaged another residence.
RCMP report that the fire caused a lot of smoke in the area. One family required assistance to evacuate, while others all got out of their residence safely. No injuries were reported.
The cause of the fire has been attributed to a spark from a welder and is not considered suspicious. Police say that the area was experiencing strong winds which is reported to have caused some challenges in fighting the fire.
The investigation continues.
