RCMP have made an arrest in an ongoing fraud investigation that began in the summer of 2009.
On June 19, 2009, the RCMP Thompson Detachment received a report from the Home Hardware Building Centre in Thompson, that they suspected an employee had been stealing from the company. In the course of the next several months, a forensic audit was completed which confirmed the owner’s suspicions.
An extensive investigation into this matter was conducted by the RCMP Thompson Detachment, with the assistance of the RCMP “D” Division Financial Integrity Unit, Major Crime Services and the RCMP St. John’s Commercial Crime Unit in Newfoundland.
It was uncovered that between 2004 and 2009, through various fraudulent means, a total of about 1.5 million dollars was missing.
43-year-old Theresa Foley, a former office manager of the store at the time, relocated to St. John’s, Newfoundland. On March 21, 2012, she was arrested by investigators in St. John’s on a Canada-wide warrant. Returning to Manitoba, Foley faces a total of 98 fraud related charges including fraud over and under $5,000, theft over $5,000 and numerous counts of uttering forged documents and falsifying documents.
Theresa Foley is currently in custody in Winnipeg and is scheduled to appear on April 5, 2012.
