On April 2, 2012, at about 2pm, Russell RCMP as well as local emergency services were dispatched to the scene of a two vehicle collision on Highway 16 at the junction of Highway 83 in Russell, Manitoba.
Investigation at the scene indicates that a 2005 Dodge Ram pick-up truck, being driven by a 42-year-old man from the RM of Shellmouth, was travelling south on Highway 83 when it collided with an eastbound semi-trailer hauling grain. Police say that the semi-trailer was being driven by a 39-year-old man from Brandon.
RCMP report that the pick-up truck collided with the fuel tank of the semi and ignited the fuel. The drivers of both vehicles escaped unharmed and the highway was closed for several hours to facilitate clean-up of the debris.
Highway 83 is controlled by a stop sign at this intersection.
Police continue to investigate.
