Vita youth, Miss Candace Maxymowich, has been selected to receive this year’s Lieutenant Governor’s Make a Difference Community Award for the Eastman Region.
This annual award was launched on the occasion of the International year of Volunteers in 2001 to recognize individuals for their contributions to the community through voluntary service. It is presented to individuals who have embodied the spirit of volunteerism and have made a lasting impact and meaningful contribution through their volunteer activities.
Miss Maxymowich will be presented the Lieutenant Governor’s Make a Difference Community Award at the 29th Annual Volunteer Award Dinner on Tuesday, April 17th at the Winnipeg Convention Centre.
Miss Maxymowich, just 18-years-old, is a resident of the small community of Vita. She is a true leader who exhibits courage and dedication. Her courage is balanced appropriately with professionalism, strong values, and humility. Furthermore, she excels at establishing priorities and proactively setting direction.
Maxymowich is interested in politics and is passionate about issues that affect our communities in the eastman region, throughout the province, and across Canada.
Maxymowich serves on the Manitoba Youth Advisory Council (selected by the Minister of Healthy Living, Youth and Seniors) to provide feedback to the province on a range of issues affecting young people.
“I am very honoured to be receiving this award. I am passionate about positive change and have wanted to make a difference in people’s lives. There’s so much I hope to accomplish.” says Maxymowich
Maxymowich is passionate about many issues and is especially interested in raising awareness of mental health and other health issues.
Maxymowich’s positive energy is easily recognized the moment you meet her. “You can’t help but be an optimist when contributing to positive change.” says Maxymowich.
Maxymowich has been very involved in her community and organizations including volunteer work with Local Investment Toward Employment, Equal Voice, Canadian Liver Foundation and many others. Candace also helps out at Teen Challenge and is a special events volunteer for Society for Manitobans with Disabilities.
“My advice to others is to follow your heart and pay attention to where you feel called, what interests, outrages, or inspires you. Making a difference starts with just one person caring and doing something.” says Maxymowich.
