On April 20, 2012, at about 10pm, investigation by the Berens River RCMP led to the arrest of two local residents involved in drug trafficking.
RCMP report that approximately 3 ounces of cocaine, drug trafficking paraphernalia and over $1,300 in cash was seized. Police also found and seized a quantity of liquor that investigators believe was being sold illegally. The drugs have an estimated street value of approximately $5,000.
32-year-old Ken Russell Semple and 48-year-old Eunice William Berens have both been charged with possession of a controlled substance for the purpose of trafficking and possession of proceeds of crime. They have been released from custody and a scheduled to appear in Berens River Provincial Court on June 12, 2012.
Police continue to investigate.
Berens River is home to approximately 2,500 people, and this seizure is significant in reducing the drug trade in the community.
