On April 28, 2012, at 11pm, Ashern RCMP as well as local emergency services were dispatched to the scene of a fatal motor vehicle collision on Highway 68 about 1.5 km east of Lake Manitoba Narrows.

Investigation at the scene indicates that a 2012 Kia was westbound on Highway 68 when it left the roadway, rolling over at least once and coming to rest in the ditch.

The driver, a 28-year-old man from Winnipeg, was pronounced deceased at the scene. His name will not be released.

A 36-year-old male passenger was transported to hospital with undetermined injuries. There was no one else in the vehicle and no other vehicles were involved.

An RCMP Traffic Collision Analyst attended to assist with the investigation.

Seat belts were reported to have been in use at theĀ  time of the collision. Speed is considered to be a contributing factor at this time.

Police continue to investigate.
