Little Grand rapids RCMP are investigating a fatal plane crash that occurred at Lake Kapekun on May 6, 2012.
Police say that a private float plane with one occupant was reported overdue and the Joint Rescue Coordination Centre Trenton dispatched a Hercules aircraft from the 435 Squadron in Winnipeg. At about 2:30am on May 6, two Search and Rescue Technicians located the missing aircraft submerged in the lake.
The pilot, an 81-year-old man from the RM of Gimli, was located deceased inside the aircraft by RCMP Underwater Recovery Team. There were no other persons reported to be aboard the aircraft.
The investigation into the plane crash is continuing.
