Three young Manitoba filmmakers who put their creative genius into road safety videos are the winners of their respective category in Manitoba Public Insurance’s ‘Rethink Road Safety’ video contest.
The winners of each category are:
Impaired Driving
Michael Scott ─ University of Manitoba
Distracted Driving
Austin Garbish ─ Lord Selkirk Regional Comprehensive School
Speeding & Aggressive Driving
Andrew Eyer ─ University of Manitoba
The Manitoba Public Insurance video contest was aimed at raising awareness about road safety and reducing collisions and deaths. In total, more than $28,000 in prizes were available, with a first-place $5,000 award in each category.
“The entries were excellent and highly creative,” said Ted Hlynsky, Vice-President, Claims Control & Safety Operations, Manitoba Public Insurance.
“It was a fantastic opportunity for young people to use their imaginations in creating videos about the dangers of unsafe driving and, in doing so, send the message to their peers that speeding, driving while impaired and distracted driving are not acceptable.”
To date, all the submitted videos have had about 30,000 views on YouTube.
Winning videos were announced recently and shown at the Canadian Council of Motor Transport Administrators (CCMTA) annual conference being held in Winnipeg. The winning videos can be viewed by going to Manitoba Public Insurance, CCMTA websites or YouTube.
