Earlier this month, an individual from The Pas posted a video on Facebook which depicted a group of individuals taunting a highly intoxicated person outside of the Legion in The Pas.
RCMP report that on May 5, 2012, an intoxicated male was walking away from a group of individuals, however, walked back as they were calling out to him. As the intoxicated male approached the group, one male, who was much larger in stature, punched him in the face and knocked him to the ground. The intoxicated male was bleeding from the face and the individuals could be heard laughing hysterically on camera as to what had just transpired and commenting that they caught the incident on video. Police learned that the video was then posted to Facebook.
The public reaction to this video was probably not the reaction the video’s originator had anticipated, as it angered/disgusted many concerned citizens who in turn brought this to the attention of The Pas RCMP. As a result, the individuals responsible, quickly attempted to delete the video from Facebook, however the video had been retained by some concerned citizens and turned over to local police.
The victim in this instance came forward after the video was posted and provided police with a statement. The victim was so highly intoxicated at the time of the assault, had no recollection of how he received the facial injuries until seeing the video.
The Pas RCMP conducted an investigation into this matter which resulted in the arrest of both the camera man and the individual who assaulted the male. 29-year-old Jean-Rock Plante and 30-year-old Blake Harry Constant have both been charged with assault causing bodily harm. Both were released on promises to appear with a court date of June 18, 2012. Both men reside in The Pas.
