On May 24, 2012, at about noon, RCMP Manitou along with the Manitou Fire Department and EMS, responded to a single semi rollover on Highway 244, about 3 miles north of Manitou.
RCMP have learned that the semi driver was heading north on Highway 244 while hauling about 180 hogs when he lost control, rolled and landed in the east ditch.
The driver, identified as a 42-year-old RM of Pembina man, suffered minor superficial injuries.
Police say that a number of hogs were either injured or killed in the collision. Those that survived were corralled and have been transported off-site. The Canadian Food Inspection Agency inspectors were also on-scene assisting with the animals.
The investigation into what lead to the collision continues. Alcohol has been ruled out as a factor in this collision.
