Officers from the Dauphin Municipal RCMP and members of the Dauphin Fire Department were called to a dwelling unit on Whitmore Avenue after a fire had been discovered in a hallway.
Police say that the incident was reported around 1:45am on Saturday, June 16. Investigators determined that a couple of small fires had been started in a hallway inside the building.
RCMP report that a number of tenants were evacuated as smoke was cleared from the building. Nobody was injured and damages have been estimated at $5000.
51-year-old Stanley Russell Widenmaier, a resident of the building, has been charged with one count of arson and one count of breach of probation. Widenmaier has been remanded in custody to appear in Provincial Court in Dauphin.
The investigation continues.
