Officers from the Dauphin Municipal RCMP have made an arrest and laid charges in a robbery that occurred this past weekend.
The incident, which occurred around 10:30pm on June 17, 2012, in a back lane near 2nd Avenue S.W., was reported to police on Monday morning. police were informed that two people had been walking down the lane when they were approached by a man and a woman. The man was carrying a crow bar and demanded money from the couple. The crow bar was taken from the suspect and he and his accomplice then fled the area. No one was injured during the altercation.
RCMP report that at approximately 5pm on Monday, a male suspect was arrested. Following his arrest, investigators linked him to a number of recent break ins within the City of Dauphin and learned that he had a quantity of stolen property at his Dauphin home. On Tuesday afternoon, investigators arrested 4 more people for possession of stolen property, including a female suspect from Sunday’s robbery. On Tuesday evening, investigators executed a search warrant at a Main Street residence and seized approximately $5000 worth of property.
Leroy Christopher James Thompson, 24, of Dauphin has been charged with robbery, possession of property obtained by crime, breach of probation and breach of undertaking. Samantha Jessica Chartrand, 26, of Gilbert Plains and Jennifer Louella Chartrand, 26, have also been charged with possession of property obtained by crime. They have been remanded in custody to appear in Provincial Court in Dauphin. Jason Matthew Chartrand, 26, of Dauphin and Eric Michael Chartrand, 24, of Dauphin, have been released from custody on a promise to appear with a court date of August, 21, 2012.
The case is being jointly investigated by the recently created Dauphin Municipal RCMP General Investigation Section (GIS) and the Dauphin Municipal Detachment officers. Investigators ask members of the public who have been victims of a property crime such as a break-in, to report it to the detachment at 204-622-5020 if they have not already done so. Investigators are actively going through recent reports of stolen property in an effort to identify the recovered property to it’s rightful owners, and if successful, will contact them for it’s return.
