Granny’s Poultry and Manitoba Turkey Producers are seeking local home cooks’ tastiest and most inventive turkey chili recipes to compete in the first annual Manitoba Turkey Chili Throwdown.
“Like chili, turkey is enjoyed year round in Manitoba,” says Jason Wortzman, Director, Marketing and Product Development for Granny’s Poultry Cooperative. “Knowing how imaginative Manitobans are in the kitchen, we are certain that they are up to the challenge of creating some delicious and nutritious chili recipes using the great taste of local-grown turkey.”
The contest runs from June 25 through July 31 and is open to all Manitoba cooks. The main ingredient in each chili recipe must be Manitoba-grown turkey. Entries are to be submitted via Granny’s website: www.grannys.ca before midnight on July 31st.
The top three chili recipes will be selected from all entries received. The judging panel includes Wortzman, an internationally-trained chef, as well as Krista Pratt, Marketing and Communications Coordinator for Manitoba Turkey Producers, and Kevin Walters, Managing Partner of the Winnipeg BBQ and Blues Festival.
The deserving finalists will compete in the Turkey Chili Throwdown during the Winnipeg BBQ & Blues Festival on Saturday, August 18th at the Red River Exhibition grounds. The public is invited to sample each dish and then cast a vote for the grand prize winner.
Grand Prize: outdoor patio set & fire pit plus a $200 Granny’s Poultry shopping spree
Second Place: Granny’s Poultry shopping spree, valued at $100
Third Place: Granny’s Poultry shopping spree, valued at $50
“We have been very impressed by the quality and creativity of submissions received in our previous contests, including Manitoba’s Best Turkey Burger Recipe Challenge in 2011,” says Wortzman. “This is why we’re so looking forward to discovering the turkey chili recipes that are simmering in Manitobans’ imaginations with this new competition.”
