On July 3, 2012, at 4:15pm, Brandon RCMP were dispatched to a 3 vehicle crash that had occurred on Veterans Way at the intersection of Curtis road.
Investigation determined that a 1997 Chevrolet Tahoe and a 2003 Dodge SX 2.0 were stopped, facing east on Veterans Way waiting for traffic to clear in order to conduct a left hand turn onto Curtis Road. An approaching east bound semi pulling a livestock trailer was required to take evasive action to avoid a collision by swerving to the right onto the gravel shoulder of the road. This event created a significant dust cloud, causing a 2004 Kia Specrta that was following the semi, to become blinded in the dust, resulting in the Kia colliding into the back of the stopped Dodge, which in turn crashed into the back of the Tahoe.
The driver of the Semi trailer unit may not have been aware of the crash and continued east bound without stopping. RCMP are seeking information to identify the driver and owner of the semi trailer unit. Police have no colour or description of the Semi tractor or trailer other than that is was a livestock trailer unit.
The 53-year-old male driver of the Tahoe, a Brandon resident, was not injured. A 10-year-old male, who was a passenger in the Dodge SX 2.0, was taken by ambulance to the Brandon Hospital for treatment of undermined injuries. His present condition is not known, but is not believed to be life threatening. The 42-year-old female driver of this vehicle, from the RM of Cornwallis, was treated at the scene. The 26-year-old female driver of the Kia Spectra, a Shilo resident, was also treated at the scene.
If anyone has an information on this collision, they are asked to call the Brandon RCMP (204)726-7520.
This incident remains under investigation.
