The Honourable Vic Toews, MP for Provencher, applauded the launch of the Harper Government’s new Community Infrastructure Improvement Fund (CIIF).
Community facilities such as local arenas, cultural centers and libraries across Manitoba are now eligible for upgrades thanks to the launch of this new infrastructure program.
“The Harper government is taking concrete steps to develop a long-term plan for public infrastructure,” said Toews. “The Community Infrastructure Improvement Fund will provide municipalities and organizations across Manitoba with much-needed support to upgrade existing community facilities.”
CIIF will support, on a cost-shared basis, repairs and improvements to existing community infrastructure accessible to the public. Local, regional and First Nation governments, as well as community not-for-profit organizations with projects that can be completed before March 31, 2014 are invited to apply for funding.
Western Economic Diversification Canada (WD) is delivering over $46 million in funding towards projects in Western Canada.
“Community-based facilities contribute to the quality of life in communities throughout Manitoba,” added Toews. “This new fund will not only improve the quality of these facilities but will also support job creation across the province.”
The deadline for applications is August 2, 2012. A second call for applications will take place in November.
