On July 6, 2012, at about 5:30pm, Portage la Prairie RCMP as well as local emergency services were dispatched to the scene of a fatal two vehicle collision, just east of Portage la Prairie on the Trans Canada Highway.
Initial investigation indicates that a 2005 Toyota Matrix was struck from behind by a 1999 Ford Ranger. Both vehicles were travelling west.
The driver of the Ford Ranger, a 17-year-old female from the RM of Portage la Prairie, was treated at the scene for minor injuries. The rear passenger of the Toyota, a 48-year-old woman from the City of Winnipeg, was pronounced deceased at the scene. The driver and front seat passenger of the Toyota, one male and one female, were transported to hospital with undetermined injuries.
An RCMP Traffic Collision Analyst as well as the RCMP Criminal Crash Investigation Team are assisting with the investigation.
