On July 8, 2012, just before 2:30am, Oakbank RCMP as well as local emergency services were dispatched to the scene of a fatal collision in the RM of Springfield, involving a train and a pick-up truck.
Initial investigation indicates that a Ford pick-up truck with three occupants was traveling north on Edgewood road when it collided with the side of a westbound CN freight train.
Police say that the male driver and a female passenger, both adults, were transported to hospital with undetermined injuries. The third occupant, an adult male, was pronounced deceased at the scene.
RCMP report that the railway crossing, located south of Highway 15, about 5 miles west of Anola, was marked with crossing signs and a stop sign.
An RCMP Traffic Collision Analyst attended to assist with the investigation. RCMP believe at this time that alcohol is a factor in the collision.
