The 2012 Folk Festival in Birds Hill Provincial Park this past week has resulted in numerous charges being laid over the last few days.
Beausejour and Oakbank RCMP Detachments report the following policing activities during the Folk Festival in Birds Hill Provincial Park:
The night prior to Folk Festival had no issues with parking on Highways 206 and 59 overnight.
Between July 4th and July 8th police can report the following:
• 7 persons were lodged under the Intoxicated Persons Detention Act
• 1 person charged with Impaired Operation of a Motor Vehicle
• 1 person was charged with two counts of Possession of Proceeds of Crime
• 1 person was charged with assaulting a Police Officer
• 4 persons were charged under the Controlled Drug and Substance Act for various offences including Possession for the Purpose of Trafficking and Trafficking.
• 19 tickets were issued for a variety of offences under the Highway Traffic Act and the Liquor Control Act.
Also of note, police and EMS responded to a number of serious drug and alcohol overdoses that required urgent medical treatment.
Overall, traffic issues were minimal, with no reported collisions of vehicles entering or leaving the Festival area.
