On July 25, 2012, following an investigation into the death of a 69-year-old male inmate at the Stony Mountain Institution, RCMP have charged 24-year-old Byron Alden Jacob with second degree murder.
Police say that the victim in this incident has been identified as 69-year-old Damiano Cosmo Valente. Valente had suffered a stab wound during the altercation and was transported to hospital in Winnipeg where he later died on June 25, 2012.
An autopsy was performed in Winnipeg and the death of Damiano Cosmo Valente, former resident of Thunder Bay, Ontario, has been attributed to a single stab wound.
RCMP report that the victim and the accused were inmates in Stony Mountain institution at the time of the incident and on June 12, 2012, both were involved in an altercation within the confines of the institution.
