A 19-year-old Steinbach man was pronounced deceased at the scene.
Police say that early investigation indicates the driver of a semi truck and trailer, a 39-year-old man from Brandon, was travelling west on Highway 52 when he struck what he first believed to be wildlife. The driver stopped a short distance later and realized he had struck a pedestrian. Early indications are that the pedestrian may have been walking on the road.
RCMP report that the semi driver was not under the influence of alcohol. Steinbach RCMP continue to investigate assisted by an RCMP Traffic Reconstructionist.
Highway 52 was closed to traffic for about 4 hours.
