On September 5, 2012, at 8:20am, Ashern RCMP, local EMS and Manitoba Hydro responded to an ultra-light plane crash on Highway 6 about two kilometers south of Ashern.

Early reports indicated that the ultra-light plane appeared to have hit the hydro lines.
The pilot, identified as a 75-year-old man from Ashern, walked away without injury. He was the sole occupant on-board the plane.
Police say early indications are that the pilot experienced mechanical difficulties. The pilot attempted to land the plane to a nearby local air strip, however, while descending, the plane came into contact with a hydro line and made a forced landing in a field near Highway 6.
Transport Safety Board and the RCMP are continuing to investigate.
