On September 2, 2012, at about 12pm, Shamattawa RCMP Officers became aware that a 19-year-old Shamattawa woman was in medical distress and had been transported to the local Nursing station.
RCMP officers attended to the Nursing station and a short time later the victim was pronounced deceased.
On September 3, an autopsy was performed in Winnipeg. The cause of death is not being released at this stage of the investigation, however, her death is being treated as a homicide.
Police say that a male has been arrested in connection with this incident, though no charges have currently been laid.
Police continue to investigate.

The deceased has been identified as 19-year-old Tatum Lee Miles of Shamattawa. An autopsy has been completed and her death has been attributed to multiple trauma. The common-law husband of the deceased, 19-year-old Robert Riley Napoakesik of Shamattawa, was arrested and has been charged with Manslaughter.
