Motorists in the eastern region of Manitoba are strongly encouraged by MPI to be extra cautious due to rain and snow conditions. Strong winds are also making highway driving challenging.
Road Safety Tips for motorists:
• Drive to conditions. You may need to go slower than the posted speed limit.
• Don’t use cruise control in icy conditions so that you can respond quickly to changing road conditions and maintain control.
• Test your traction before you get to the actual stop sign by lightly applying the brakes ahead of time.
• If a passing vehicle creates a white-out condition – slow down gradually and cautiously to remain in control and avoid being hit by vehicles behind you. Do not pull onto the shoulder as drivers behind you may follow, thinking you are still on the road, and rear end your vehicle.
