As a result of considerable use of the community compost depots this past year, the City of Steinbach’s Solid Waste Department is pleased to offer a high quality compost product back to the public free of charge.
Residents of Steinbach brought their compostable yard and garden waste to one of two depots in the city this past spring and summer. This material is composted and screened at the Steinbach Landfill and used in Steinbach’s parks and gardens, as well as made available to the public at no charge in the fall.
Finished compost is now available for pick-up at the Steinbach Landfill. Members of the public are welcome to come pick up a load of compost at no charge. The City reminds the public that you are responsible for loading and transporting any compost material. Check in at the scale station upon arrival and ask where you can pick up the free compost.
Approximately 45 per cent of the waste in the Steinbach Landfill is compostable material. For more information on winter composting and composting in general, please visit www.compost.org or www.greenactioncentre.ca.
