Two Winnipeg residents are facing drug trafficking charges after being arrested by police earlier this week.
Just before 3am on October 16, 2012, while on patrol, Portage la Prairie RCMP observed a 2005 Chrysler 300 on Highway 1 just east of Portage la Prairie, Manitoba. The vehicle was stopped while police were investigating a Highway Traffic Act offence.
Subsequent investigation revealed that the occupants in the vehicle were in possession of approximately 10.5 pounds of marijuana. The approximate value of the marijuana is $37,000.
RCMP report that 21-year-old Phillip Perreault and 28-year-old Leslie Maracle, both from Winnipeg, were arrested and charged with possession of a controlled substance for the purpose of trafficking. Both have been held in custody, and are scheduled to appear in Portage la Prairie Provincial Court.
Police continue to investigate.
